Designing new city walking experiences through 'getting lost' in Sumida, Tokyo
Walking in Sumida Ward, you can see the Sky Tree wherever you are. With such a sense of security, you can just kind of go where your heart takes you. This kind of experience may give rise to a rich perspective not found in the modern way of travelling to a destination without making any detours. Through the pseudo-experience of getting 'lost' in the city, we are trying to design a new kind of travel experience in order to have unexpected encounters, to decipher the city and to look at ourselves.

While this feature is an attraction for regular customers, it is also a reason for people who are not familiar with the shopping arcade to avoid using it. This study examines the contradictory nature of this 'inner circle' and explores ways of attracting new customers to shopping streets by making use of it.
