Ripple - Rocking Horse Set

Department of Industrial Design, Chaoyang University of Technology

Design Motivation: Among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), sensory integration dysfunction is prevalent, hindering their ability to focus and work. Ripple Rocking Horse Kit aims to mitigate these challenges by integrating essential sensory training elements into a versatile product. Unlike conventional sensory tools, Ripple transforms into various configurations, inspired by the beloved rocking horse, fostering sensory integration and joyful growth. Design Description: Targeting children aged 3-6, Ripple aids in gross motor skills, social-emotional development, and daily life activities. Stimulating vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, and visual senses through playful engagement promotes sensory integration and interpersonal interactions. Ripple is a modular kit offering diverse forms, encouraging sensory stimulation and integration. Design Concept: Ripple Rocking Horse Kit, designed for children with sensory integration dysfunction, adopts a "one tool, multiple uses" approach. It encompasses four modes: Balance Board, Tactile Podium, Meandering Path, and Rocking Horse. The Balance Board stimulates vestibular senses and gross motor skills, while the Tactile Podium's embedded foot pedals prevent tripping and provide sensory stimulation. Different handle heights accommodate children of varying heights or riding postures.
