WHAT IF the talkative and socially experienced taxi driver becomes a listener and mentor, the banal taxi trip a caring and supportive service? SITUATION/ Frustration and anger come and go in urban life, so swiftly and frequently that a formal counseling or talk therapy session is both too slow, too much and too expensive as a way out. Could we design a brand new service to fill the gap? PROCESS/ The project team recognises taxis throughout the city, along with their skilled drivers, as a valuable community resource. This contribution extends beyond physical transportation to include emotional care and support. The team designs an innovative service through which passengers in emotional need can request a cruising, caring and breathing space, to have a casual yet meaningful conversation with drivers of different backgrounds.
