This bachelor thesis research focused on exploring lignin, one of the three main components of wood, for dyeing and printing textiles and yarns. The textiles display beautiful colors ranging from light beige to darker brown. As the textile industry increasingly seeks sustainable alternatives, lignin is a potential natural, renewable dye source. The future may well witness lignin's transformation from an energy source to a vibrant contributor to the textile and fashion industry's color palette.

Food waste into crafting material: Case Fiskars

Department of Design, Aalto University

This thesis aimed to repurpose common food waste into crafting material, promoting extensive recycling culture. The research, sponsored by Fiskars Group involved literature review on bio-based materials and food waste composition, followed by iterative development of processing methods. The result is an easy guide and recipe to make crafting material from bio-based waste. By reusing orange and carrot peels as well as wastepaper we can start to reduce the stigma associated with utilizing waste.
