In viewing paintings, there are a wide variety of viewpoints that are attractive to viewers, and it is valuable to be able to freely hold and appreciate these viewpoints, but there are many people who find it difficult to acquire these viewpoints and enjoy the paintings only through the atmosphere. This study aimed to lower the hurdles in the appreciation of paintings, and proposed an exhibition method that allows visitors to experience the appreciation of paintings in a more sensible way.
Through research and analysis, we found that the captions and audio guides currently in use are passive, and that there are physical and psychological characteristics to the viewpoints of painting appreciation, and that repeated observation and imagination of the two can inspire one’s own appreciation of the paintings. We believe that adding a new axis of depth to a painting by deconstructing it may help to emphasize its physical features and recall the process of painting, thereby achieving our goal.
When we decomposed the color data using OpenCV, we obtained the effect of emphasizing expressions such as shading from the painted elements by rearranging them based on their depth as elements.
Therefore, the final product was printed on transparent film and displayed by sorting the colors according to the depth of the elements in the painting. This artifact enabled visitors to experience the appreciation of the paintings more sensitively by guiding their viewpoints with non-verbal information, which not only achieved the objective but also created an experience that could only be obtained with this artifact, such as the ability to view the paintings from other directions in addition to the front.
