In East Asian culture, the lotus has long been fixed as a symbol of purity and sacredness. Over time, these cultural narratives have gradually replaced direct observation of the plant itself. This study attempts to temporarily remove these established meanings and return to the biological structure and morphological variations of the lotus.
Through the observation and classification of over one hundred lotus varieties, this research establishes a morphological archive. It translates petal arrangements, receptacle structures, and stem extensions into geometric relationships and modular systems. By combining visual analysis with 3D printing experiments, the structural characteristics of each part are transformed into geometric and modular forms, allowing design to become a method for reinterpreting natural morphology.

Buggle

Department of Industrial Design, Chaoyang University of Technology

Buggle centers on nine symbolic energies, transforming beetle forms into wearable talismans. Each piece is crafted in aluminum, shaped through pressing and forging to create refined surface textures that reveal the metal’s varied surface qualities. Through anodizing and dyeing, an industrial process is reinterpreted into a layered language of color, giving each beetle a distinct visual identity. Rune-like symbols inspired by Taiwanese Zhuyin (Bopomofo) are incorporated into the designs as marks of energy, creating a sense of mystery that exists between legibility and abstraction. By bringing together material, craftsmanship, and symbolic meaning, Buggle presents accessories that are both decorative and meaningful, exploring the diverse possibilities of aluminum in contemporary adornment.
