Centered on decommissioned railway sleepers, this project extends the material’s life through functional reassembly. The chair legs feature a contrast between polished surfaces and oxidized textures, showcasing both artisanal precision and the traces of time. Through the interactive sliding of components, the resulting wooden percussive sounds replicate the rhythmic pulse of a train. By translating railway vernacular into an everyday medium, this creative practice serves as a vessel for cultural memory and craft innovation.

Translating railway track modules into furniture structures to echo urban infrastructure. Reconstructing recycled sleepers and steel rails into refined, sustainable craft furniture. Recreating rhythmic train sounds through interactive mechanisms to evoke auditory railway memories. Transforming recycled railway sleepers into refined craft furniture through sustainable design.

KURA: Modular Smart Bookbox

Department of Industrial Design, National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei Tech

Integrating modular architecture with refined woven textures, KURA utilizes NFC technology to track book placement and circulation status. Through AI-driven analysis and personalized indexing, it transforms static volumes into a networked web of knowledge. During search, synchronized lighting provides intuitive visual guidance, while smart sensors and biochar humidity control preserve your library through a philosophy of sustainability.
