Bamboo Shadows & Flowing Light

Hidden within the mountain landscape, Bamboo Shadows & Flowing Light is an interactive cultural space that weaves together bamboo culture, sound, and hands-on making, reinterpreting the relationship between people and nature. Located on Hutou Mountain in Puli, the architecture extends naturally with the terrain, appearing as if it has grown from the mountain itself. Guided by sound, the space connects wind, rustling leaves, and curated soundscapes, allowing perception to unfold through movement. Through bamboo weaving and hands-on experiences, culture is no longer merely observed, but understood through touch and creation. Light filters through bamboo structures over time, shaping layered spatial rhythms and creating a delicate dialogue between nature, sound, and culture.

Umbronicle

Department of Commercial Design and Management, National Taipei University of Business

In Taiwan, umbrellas are an inseparable part of daily life. We rely on them instinctively—they are the silent guardians in our bags and a survival essential for our unpredictable climate. Yet, this dependency is paradoxically fragile. Because they are so easily acquired and difficult to repair, these “unsung heroes” that once shielded us from scorching sun and torrential rain are often discarded the moment a rib snaps. They end up as a heavy burden on our rivers, streets, and landfills. Umbronicle seeks to intervene in this contradictory relationship. By reclaiming these forgotten urban orphans and extending their life through design, we transform abandoned regrets into new forms of companionship. Through upcycling, we empower the next generation to step into nature with gear that tells a story, turning urban waste into a bridge for ecological reconciliation.
