In Taiwan, umbrellas are an inseparable part of daily life. We rely on them instinctively—they are the silent guardians in our bags and a survival essential for our unpredictable climate. Yet, this dependency is paradoxically fragile. Because they are so easily acquired and difficult to repair, these “unsung heroes” that once shielded us from scorching sun and torrential rain are often discarded the moment a rib snaps. They end up as a heavy burden on our rivers, streets, and landfills.

Umbronicle seeks to intervene in this contradictory relationship. By reclaiming these forgotten urban orphans and extending their life through design, we transform abandoned regrets into new forms of companionship. Through upcycling, we empower the next generation to step into nature with gear that tells a story, turning urban waste into a bridge for ecological reconciliation.

The multi-purpose playmat creates a space for children to create and rest. A "gift" styled bottle holder, bringing a protective surprise on your go. Deeply narrating umbrella culture, leading readers back to everyday folk life. Visually transforming unique umbrella patterns, adorned with fabric remnants for high collectible value. The drink carrier brings daily companionship into urban life. Folds with double-sided colors for compact storage, giving a flower bud new life.

Meow Around

Bachelor Program in Digtal Marketing Design, Ming Chi University of Technology

Inspired by Maokong's unique pothole geology, "Meow Around" is a wayfinding system that reimagines the area's original name ("wrinkled holes") as the footprints of a guardian giant cat. To cut through the visual clutter of the mountain town, we utilized a high-contrast palette of Warm Orange and Deep Blue, paired with custom feline-themed typography. By replacing rigid warnings with engaging icons, we transformed standard navigation into a playful treasure hunt. Ultimately, this system does more than point the way—it invites visitors to rediscover the hidden surprises of the tea hills.
