Co-created with a drag queen, this project develops the character Tierra to challenge five common stereotypes through a diary-based narrative. By contrasting bare face and full makeup, it reveals the tension between authenticity and societal pressure.

Through interactive paper dolls and social media stickers, the work invites audience participation while exploring identity, survival, and self-expression, ultimately advocating for gender equality and social justice.

For curious audiences, this design uses accessible, interactive experiences to deepen understanding of drag queens’ real lives and identities. Using diaries and Instagram, audiences connect with queens’ emotions while sharing personal reflections and forming deeper connections with the work. Packaged like a makeup bag, the photobook intimately documents Tierra’s journey from bare face to makeup removal, revealing inner thoughts and personal growth through symbolic beauty tools. Overall design strategy: lowering barriers, encouraging participation, and building understanding. We transform the drag process into an interactive experience using authorized queen-inspired styles throughout the design.
