Land Hermeneutics

Introduction

The theme of "Land Hermeneutics" is constructed through a series of interconnected processes: "acquisition, understanding, and translation." As translators, we begin with ourselves, perceiving the culture of the land and then translating it as the content of the "narrative." The foreign term "Land Hermeneutics" signifies a shared interpretation of the land. The phrase "I ‘ll swallow this land, then I’ll tell it to you." represents the fusion with the land, environment, and history, viewing the "land" as the vessel of all memory. Translating land and culture through the three states of matter, this visual series uses the density of white circles to reflect their natural forms. Circular gradients evoke imagery of sedimentation, semi-fluidity, and intangible atmospheres. Corresponding to the Chinese theme "輯(jí, compilation)," information is presented through book covers, belly bands, and spines. In addition, the internet protocol character "阿土" (阿塗 a-thóo) is represented by the character "土" (land) and transformed into an emoticon. It will be used in special publications, merchandise, and as a medium to convey the concept at the exhibition.
